Established in 1935, Valley of Fire State Park in Overton, Nevada is quite the wonder. It is the perfect day trip to add to your Las Vegas itinerary.  We recommend visiting early in the day; you’ll want to hit the trails before the park gets busy and before the midday heat.

Entrance Fee: $15 per vehicle

Download the park map before your visit, as there is very limited cell reception in the park.

Fire Wave Trail

Start your day in Valley of Fire State Park with the Fire Wave Trail.  It closely resembles the Wave in Arizona with its colorful striations.  It’s an easy 1.5 mile out and back trail.  There is no shade on this trail which is why its listed first.  Park in lot #3 (there is cell reception in this parking lot) to easily access the trailhead.

Mouse’s Tank

If you’ve seen pictures of Valley of Fire State Park, you’ve probably seen the iconic shot of Mouse’s Tank Road from a higher elevation.  We assumed that this hike led to the rock that everyone stands on for this picture….it is not.  However, it’s still a nice 1.2 mile round trip hike with a view of several rock formations and ancient petroglyphs.  If you’re looking for the photo spot, it is at the Mouse’s Tank Road Viewpoint.

Pastel Pink Canyon

Location on Google Maps

This canyon is not listed on the park map, however it is on Google Maps.  It can be bit tricky to find, as there is only a pullout for one or two vehicles along Mouse’s Tank Road.  This pink pathway is worth the stop, as the narrow canyon displays pretty pastel hues when it’s sunlit.  It’s not much of a hike, just more of a quick walk through the canyon.
